Hovering building wins Miami design competition

New York- based studio Dror has won DawnTown’s 2013 landmark Miami ideas competition, with the proposal of “Miamilift”, a triangular shaped volume which appears peeled away from the ground.

Hovering above the water’s edge, the project draws on the popularity of the metropolis as a holiday getaway, famous for its beaches, multi-cultural society and its port location, making it a major cruise docking point.

The project includes a number of programs such as retail, restaurant and café, theatre, media library and exhibition space, all of which offer panoramic views of the city and the Atlantic Ocean.

Focusing on the landmark notion and identifying cities by individual structures, the competition encouraged competitors to develop a symbol for the coastal city of Miami with an architectural feature that stands out while also reflecting the city’s current image.
