ZHA completes architectural landscape in Seoul

Zaha Hadid Architects has completed the Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) located in Seoul, Korea.

The 30,000m2 project reinterprets conceptual underpinnings of traditional Korean garden design– no single feature is said to dominate the perspective.

“The design integrates the park and plaza seamlessly as one, blurring the boundary between architecture and nature in a continuous, fluid landscape,” said Zaha Hadid Architects in a statement.

DDP will serve as a cultural hub in the centre of Dongdaemun and works to bring together context, local cultures and innovative engineering.

The development is built around an ancient city wall and cultural artifacts that were discovered before DDP’s construction. This foundation forms DDP’s central focus.

DDP will host 24 hour shopping and cafes, as well as exhibition halls, convention halls, design museums and a media centre.
