Zaha Hadid designs marble vases and tables for Citco

Famed Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid has released a series of marble vases and tables for Italian stone company Citco.

Each of the designs in the new series was designed by using a CNC milling machine, allowing the architect to carve away pieces from a solid block of marble.

Known as Tau vases, the designs are available in five shapes and sizes, ranging for short and wide to long and slender. Each vase displays ridges that are drawn out from the bottom to the top, with each one rimmed with a series of peaks.

A statement released by Zaha Hadid Architects says: “The Tau vases appear organic; emerging as a series of intricately rendered pleats expressing the formal complexity of natural growth systems.

“Seemingly as delicate as flower petals, the fragile aesthetic of the vases belies the solidity of their material.”

The Quad marble tables are also available in five different sizes, and are formed by four quadrants which are bent down to form the legs.

The latest series is the successor to Hadid’s series of sculptural tables and shelving unit for the same company.
