Admares, the firm contracted to deliver Phase 1 of Dubai Properties’ Marasi Business Bay project on Dubai Water Canal, has announced plans to float a selection of buildings from Finland to the UAE.
The Finnish-owned company will design and manufacture the buildings in Finland before transporting them to the Emirates by sea.
The firm’s scope of work will include 10 water homes, two restaurants, and a yacht club, all of which will be floating structures.
Mikael Hedberg, chief executive officer of Admares, said: “Our objective is to create unique, innovative, and environmentally friendly real estate products, using ground-breaking, multi-disciplinary off-site construction technology.
“We started at the top with our first project in the Emirates, working with Jumeirah and Dubai Holding for the Burj Al Arab Terrace. Having successfully delivered the new resort extension – the biggest ever undertaking of its kind in the world – we now have another project where the client was looking to create a landmark development with a high degree of innovation and quality.”
Dubai Properties’ Marasi Business Bay development will boast the longest waterfront promenade in the UAE, and the country’s first floating homes with pedestrian and boat access.
The project will also feature restaurants, leisure facilities, retail outlets, and five palm tree-lined yacht marinas with approximately 700 berths.
Admares commenced production of the floating buildings in October 2016. The company plans to transport them from Finland to the UAE in Q3 2017.
Abdulla M Lahej, group CEO of Dubai Properties, commented: “We are pleased to partner with Finland’s Admares to develop the first-of-their-kind homes on water in Dubai Properties’ Marasi Business Bay destination.
“Their use of innovative technologies and unique construction techniques to deliver these types of pioneering structure will ensure that the unique homes on water, and the surrounding promenade, parks, and marina, will be one of the most sought after residential destinations in the city.”
Located within 550m of Downtown Dubai, Marasi Business Bay offers easy access to Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.
Marasi Business Bay Promenade was opened by Dubai Properties in November 2016 to coincide with the completion of the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) $1.1bn (AED4bn) Dubai Water Canal.
The 12km-long artificial waterway extends inland from Dubai Creek through Business Bay, before returning back to the Arabian Gulf.
Phase 1 of Marasi Business Bay, which will include The Marina and The Park, will be delivered in Q4 2017, according to Dubai Properties.
