Turner & Townsend to expand hotel, leisure & residential sectors

Programme management and construction consultancy Turner & Townsend has appointed Joanne Stephens as project management director in the UAE.

Stephens has worked in the Middle East for seven years and will manage a team spread across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Oman and Qatar.

She will initially focus on the commercial and retail fit-out sectors, but help the firm to expand its hotel, leisure and residential sectors.

“The market in the Middle East has stabilised a great deal since the 2008 crash, and is once again full of opportunity,” said Stephens.

“The nature of those opportunities has changed, and we’re still seeing a lot of caution and consolidation in the market. Clients are thinking carefully before beginning projects, and this is why good project planning, cost management and due diligence are more important than ever.

“Turner & Townsend is one of the few remaining independent construction consultancies in the industry, and my goal is to channel its expertise to create a ‘boutique’ team of project managers which will focus on effective and efficient project delivery.”

From July 2006 – 2012, Stephens was the lead  project manager coordinating the fit-out projects from design brief through to completion and handover on a number of projects including Akin Gump, Sowwah Square, Abu Dhabi; Norton Rose, Sowwah Square, Abu Dhabi; Linklaters, DIFC Dubai; Credit Suisse, re-stack of 3 floors of occupied office space, Gate Building, DIFC, Dubai and Bell Pottinger, Media City Dubai.
