Traditional designs will be feature of new Saudi developments

International architecture firms will draw on Islamic traditional designs in a series of large scale residential developments across Saudi Arabia.

Developers Abdul Latif Jameel and Emaar Properties have gone into business together in order to undertake the projects, fuelled by a growing population – the majority of whom are young.

A memorandum signed by the president of Abdul Latif Jameel, Mohammed Abdul Latif Jameel, and the chairman of Emaar, Mohamed Alabbar will focus on developing premium, master-planned communities.

Alabbar said the partnership will aim to “develop world-class real estate projects, which will be highlighted by a truly international and world-class design and superior build quality”.

The business partners said they will be working with design studios from across the world – but ensure that traditional architecture is incorporated into the plans in order to preserve regional identity.

The new communities will include landscaped central parks, Grand Mosques, educational facilities, healthcare centres, children-friendly areas, as well as homes.
