The auditorium at Atkins-designed Dubai Opera has been transformed from a squash court into a dining venue for Iftar, as revealed in the time lapse video below.
Dubai Opera had recently hosted he PSA Dubai World Series Finals at its Downtown Dubai venue, which now houses a large dining hall for Muslims to break their fast.
During designMENA’s interview with Janus Rostock, design director at Atkins, the architect behind Dubai’s biggest cultural project said that jewel of the Dubai Opera is the 2,000 seat concert hall itself, shown in the video.
Dubai Opera has the ability to transform internally into different modes to host opera, theatre, concert, exhibition, banquet and conference occasions.
This is achieved through a high number of moving floors, walls and ceilings that allow auditorium seating to change configuration, or to disappear altogether, as well as different stage configurations.
