UAE-based interior designers are invited to take part in 4th annual sustainable design competition, organised by Surge, a global non-profit organisation that provides safe water access to thousands of people worldwide.
With sustainability as its main criteria, the 2017 theme is “Reimagine Lighting”. Designers will be challenged to create environmentally-friendly design lighting elements that will be showcased at the annual “Design, Dine and Make a Difference” awards ceremony, taking place on 7 December, 2017.
Designers who wish to get involved need to complete the entry form to notify Surge of their interest by May 30th while all design concepts should be submitted between 17-24 June.
Approved concepts will be selected by 1 July and chosen designers will be invited to attend a workshop and asked to select a build partner to participate in the challenge.
The event is the brainchild of Laila Al-Yousuf, senior interior designer at Perkins+Will. She wanted to find a way to connect the interior design community while giving back to the community.
Every year, the pieces that are showcased each have a distinctive story connecting them to the cause.
The overall winner of last year’s competition was Ripples shelf designed by Bluehaus Group (pictured). The design concept reflected on Surge’s values and mission while keeping its core purpose at the foundation of its inspiration.
