Skidmore, Owings & Merril (SOM) has completed the Four Seasons Hotel called Bahrain Bay, located in the small Gulf island of Bahrain, with an official opening already taking place.

The hotel project occupies a private 12-acre island creating a thriving destination for the developing Bahrain Bay district.

The project is part of the architecture practice’s masterplan with the hotel setting an important milestone is activating the waterfront area.

The 68-storey building of 200 metres high offers 273 rooms as well as numerous amenities including five swimming pools, a spa and fitness centre, and a lofty “Skypod” restaurant. Additional enterprise-driven amenities include a business centre, event areas as well as meeting spaces catering to guests outside of the office environment.

Upon arrival, guests enter through grand limestone pavilions with a conference centre and ballroom to the east side and the spa and fitness centre to the west. The entrance features a 12-metre bronze porte-cochere which punctures the tower to create the hotel lobby.

The hotel’s program is supported by two concrete piers that host 17 floors of guest rooms near the base of the tower, with two restaurants and a conference floors on top.

The suspended floors celebrate the surrounding views through the floor-to-ceiling glazing. This creates an ever-changing environment inside with the natural daylight switching from day to night.

“The completion of Four Seasons Bahrain Bay marks a key moment in this district’s transformation. The hotel’s bold architectural expression reflects the spirit of its surroundings- a growing city brimming with energy,” commented Roger Duffy, design partner at SOM.
