Saudi designer Aya Bitar launches storage system for prayer

Saudi designer Aya Bitar has unveiled her latest collection entitled The Sanctuary, a storage solution for prayer in Islam. The concept will be launched in June in line with the holy month of Ramadan.

The Sanctuary was the designer’s solution to every-day prayer routines, developing a concept that better facilitates the pre-prayer routine for Muslims.

It allows the users to store all the items necessary during prayer, as well as being portable. Since prayer in Islam happens five times a day, there is always a timely routine that occurs before the actual prayer.

“This collection focuses on the concept of relieving individuals from day-to-day anxieties and being caught up in every day pressures, ensuring the consumer enjoys a moment to themselves whether through prayer, yoga or mediation,” explained Bitar.

For men, who wear the traditional clothing, they will need to remove the “ghotra” and find a place to store it without it getting wrinkled, in addition to all the items in their pockets as well as the prayer rug and the Qur’an. The process is then reversed when the prayer is complete. The Sanctuary acts a storage unit that saves time during prayer prep.

Made in stainless steel with a variety of finishes including wood and acrylics, it is easy to pack and assemble in any given location.

“Expats and locals in the GCC do not spend enough time to focus on themselves, constantly overwhelmed with no place to be free or alone. ‘The Sanctuary’ offers a serene place for one to pray, relax, and meditate in any form in a more convenient and timely manner. Whether reading a book, listening to music, or even a yoga session; this design allows for concentration in a practical way,” she said.

It can also be used for other activities such as yoga or Pilates. The Sanctuary is Bitar’s second collection since she launched in May, 2015.
