Buro Happold’s former Middle East managing director, Roger Nickells, has been appointed as chief executive officer of the UK-based group.
He is being replaced as Middle East managing director by Oliver Plunkett, who joined the firm in 2010 and for the past four years has been leading the firm’s operations in Saudi Arabia since.
Buro Happold was named as Engineering Company of the Year in the 2013 Middle East Architect awards.
Commenting on Plunkett’s promotion, Nickells said: “Oliver has demonstrated over the past four years his passion for the Middle East region and his excellent leadership skills.
“Oliver has spearheaded major strategic change across our Saudi Arabia efforts and I look forward to seeing him translate his success into his new role as Middle East managing director.
Plunkett added: “This is an exciting time for our firm in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Nations and I am proud to have been appointed the new managing director for the region.
“In the next couple of years we have a multitude of once-in-a-generation projects approaching completion – Atturaif, Haramain, King AbdulAziz Centre for World Culture, King Abdullah Financial District, Heart of Doha and Louvre Abu Dhabi, to name a few.
He also congratulated Nickells on his promotion.
“Having experienced his leadership first hand, I have absolutely no doubt he is the right person to lead our firm to a new and exciting future.”
