Danish firm Bystrup has won a competition to revamp the design of the UK’s electricity pylons.
The competition was run by the Department of Energy & Climate Change, National Grid and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).
Six designs were shortlisted from 250 entries. Bystrup’s T-Pylon concept was praised as ‘radical’, ‘simple’ and ‘understated’ by RIBA immediate past president Ruth Reed.
The design will be developed in connection with National Grid and is set to replace some of the 88,000 pylons across Britain.
