A Shurooq and General Hotel Management heritage-inspired hotel located in the largest historical preservation site in Sharjah, UAE, will open its doors on 1 September 2018, Construction Week Online reported.

The five-star Al Bait resort is made up of restored houses once home to notable Emirati families and newly-built heritage-style guest homes.

It is located in the Heart of Sharjah, a huge historical preservation and restoration project set to be completed in 2025, which will lead the emirate’s cultural tourism and hospital sector.

Speaking about the development, the manager of Heart of Sharjah, Eng Khaled Deemas, said the five-star Al Bait hotel would enhance “Sharjah’s position as a leading cultural tourism destination”.

Al Bait, meaning home in Arabic, has been designed with elements that reflect traditional culture, architecture, design, history, and well-known Emirati hospitality.

It is General Hotel Management’s second resort in the Middle East, its first being Chedi Muscat in Oman.

Sharjah has also recently restored an old building in the Heart of Sharjah called the Bait Al Naboodah which now serves as a museum.

Efforts to preserve buildings located outside of the Sharjah’s historic location has also been expressed. Architect  Mona El Mousfy, who is the advisor to the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, said in a recent interview that the programme aims to preserve Sharjah’s “under-valued” buildings from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
