Rem Koolhaas turns derelict restaurant into arts centre

Dutch firm OMA, co-founded by Pritzker Prize winner Rem Koolhaas, has revealed its design to transform a derelict Moscow restaurant into an arts centre.

Garage Gorky Park, due to be completed in 2013, will involve the renovation of famous 1960s Vremena Goda restaurant, a prefabricated concrete pavilion which has been derelict for more than two decades.

OMA’s design for the 5,400m2 building includes exhibition galleries on two levels, a creative centre for children, shop, cafe, auditorium and offices.

The design preserves original Soviet-era elements including a large mosaic, tiles, and brick.
