The National Investment Corporation (NIC) has announced an AED3 billion project to expand Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall and develop a new 546-metre waterfront promenade, Arabian Business reported.
According to NIC, work on the 300,000 sqm expansion will begin in the second half of 2018, with a series of upgrades to existing mall facilities slated to begin earlier in the year.
The new waterfront promenade, which will include 123,000 sqm of leisure and entertainment options, will also be home to Abu Dhabi’s first skate park. Of the total area of the promenade, 15,000 sqm of open areas, dedicated to community events, as well as multiple water features, three helicopter pads, and 900 additional parking spaces.
Additionally, NIC has announced that Marina Walk’s 19,500 sqm Gross Leasable Area (GLA) will include a new dining district, built around a “restaurant tower”.
Work on the promenade is expected to begin in the second half of 2018.
“These new plans will allow us to rejuvenate and heighten the experience we offer our customers for many years to come,” said NIC Chief Investment Officer Rami Chehabeddine.
“By adding to the incredible mix of shopping, dining and entertainment options we already offer as well as building an even greater environment for our customers we will reinforce our position as the destination of choice for people and families of all ages.”
In addition to the expansion, existing features of the mall w ll be upgraded, including introducing LED screens, renovating current store front fixtures to open up space, and enhancements to the luxury area and main entrance.
