Qatar has announced plans to build the world’s largest hospital, according to Arabic newspaper Al Sharq.
The facility will be named after the country’s leader, The Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, and will not only be the largest hospital in terms of size, but also of patient capacity.
The newspaper quoted a source stating that the hospital was expected to be the most advanced in the world. It will also be “an architectural marvel and will be part of a plan by Qatar to dazzle the international community when it hosts the World Cup in 2022”.
With healthcare taking a leading position in Qatar’s current infrastructure development, it is estimated that 8,000 medical personnel will be hired in advance of Qatar’s World Cup in 2022. The hospital is expected to be completed two years prior to the World Cup in 2020.
