.PSLAB wins Good Design Award 2011 for lighting product

.PSLAB has been given the Good Design Award 2011 for a ceiling mounted fixture, conceived for the main reception of a private residence in Beirut, Lebanon.

The product was created for the main reception of a private residence in Beirut, Lebanon with the aim of unifying the space while, through repeating one module, providing a visual pattern.

The module – a long cylinder split into two half bodies, with a white finish – was spaced and flipped to provide a specific pattern, varying in density.

The lids at the mouths of the cylinders had their angles controlled to create a layer like fish scales – hiding the direct ambient light and creating a skin over the surface of the fixtures.

The main reception of this private house was a rectangular space defined by different seating areas.

“Our objective was to create a product that would combine the space and simultaneously provide a visual pattern. The solution for this site is reflective of our project approach which is at the core of what we do here at .PSLAB,” said the designers.

“This approach involves offering our clients a complete service from creating unique product designs based on the characteristics of the space to working with them through every aspect of project development from concept to construction,” they added.

Based on an open dialogue with the client throughout the process; the creative team develops product designs that work well with the site and correspond to the client’s needs. The finished products are designed to be functional and visually effective while working with the site.

Now in its 62nd year, the Good Design Awards are chosen annually by The Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design in cooperation with The European Centre for Architecture, Art, Design and Urban Studies.

Founded in 2004 with over 100 team members working out of four city bases in Europe and the Middle-East including offices in Beirut and Stuttgart, .PSLAB are designers and manufacturers of site-specific lighting products.

Since 2004, it has won six Reddot Design Awards, five IF Product Design Awards, two IF Communication Design Awards, six Good Design Awards, one Interior Design Award and one IALD Lighting Design Award.
