Architecture and its relationship to people is set to be at the forefront of this year’s Cityscape Global, which takes place this month.

Dubai World Trade Centre is the venue for the annual event which is used as a showcase for major new projects.

Architects and engineers join forces with government officials, investors and developers to set the agenda for urban design over the next 12 months.

“This year’s event needs to focus on architecture and its relationship with people,” said Janus Rostock of Atkins.

“The UAE market is changing and the focus is switching from luxury to the more normal needs of people. These can be apartments, or the space between buildings. I would like to see the coming event be about people, experience, diversity and flexibility.”

In Dubai Atkins’ current portfolio of projects includes the Dubai Opera for Emaar, Al Habtoor Residences, the residential element of Al Habtoor City on Sheikh Zayed Road, Suites in the Skai and a residential tower in Jumeirah Villlage Circle.

In Saudi Arabia the firm is working on the Prince Sultan Cultural Centre on the outskirts of Jeddah.  A key component of the site area is public realm, comprising gardens, urban squares and shaded walkways, all interconnected by a large central park.
