Perkins Eastman, Saadiyat Island

International design firm Perkins Eastman joined Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Abu Dhabi National Hotels in celebrating the opening ofthe Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi Hotel and Villas on Saadiyat Island.

The first Hyatt-branded property in the UAE capital, the 484,400 sf (45,000 sm) 306-key Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi designed by Perkins Eastman opened on November 1, 2011.

“The Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi is a resort unlike any other in Abu Dhabi, uniquely reflecting thePark Hyatt reputation for attention to luxurious detail and the vitality of Arabian culture,” said principal Shawn Basler AIA, who leads Perkins Eastman’s growing hospitality practice.

“We are proud to have worked so closely with the Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Abu Dhabi National Hotels not only in bringing the collective vision to fruition but also in playing such arole in the development of this world-class destination.”

The resort is located on the natural island of Saadiyat on a five-mile stretch of environmentally protected white sand beach. Within minutes of Abu Dhabi’s prime business district and Corniche, the resort caters to both business and leisure travelers alike, offering unobstructed views of the waterfront and Saadiyat Beach Golf Club from its guestrooms and restaurants.

The hotel was designed by New York-based architects Perkins Eastman and Singapore-based designers Wilson Associates. The architecture and landscape were designed to complement one another and to blur the lines between the indoors and outdoors; different components of the resort are connected by landscape elements, courtyards, covered walkways, and gardens.

By using energy-efficient designs that meet LEED Silver standards, the resort complements the island’s natural beauty while setting a benchmark of luxurious sustainability.

The rooms reflect understated luxury, taking cues from Arabian culture and traditions in their ornamentation. All rooms feature extended terraces and open washrooms with views to the Arabian Sea, golf club, or hotel swimming pools; villas also include a private plunge pool, rain shower, and sunbeds.
