New president appointed by Canadian architect institute

Nigerian-born designer Sam Oboh has been elected to lead the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada.

He has been a licensed architect for 20 years and moved to Edmonton, Canada, in 2004. After private practice work he was appointed regional manager for the public works department and also worked on a masterplan for the area.

Architecture improves only when citizens create the demand for well-functioning, suitable buildings, said Oboh, who will serve a one year term as president.

He explained: “Creating an awareness of how architecture is directly related to quality of live will improve architecture in any community. Everyone has to be engaged to make it successful.”
