New financial centre for Istanbul revealed

As part of Turkey’s drive to be one of the world’s top 10 economies by 2023 details of a new financial centre for Istanbul were unveiled at Cityscape Global.

Agaoglu architects are working on the project alongside HOK who took on the role of masterplanners.

A model of the proposed development was on display at Dubai’s World Trade Centre.

Niyazi Albay, chief investment officer for Agaoglu, said: “As long ago as the 13th century Istanbul was a financial centre dealing in gold and spices – a centre of trade.

“The design of the new hub reflects that architectural tradition. We have displayed it at Cityscape as Dubai attracts investors from across the world and as well as Turkish banks and financial institutions if we are to make an impact on a global level we need to attract international investment.

“When HOK did the masterplan they looked at the heritage of architecture in the region – even dating back to pre-Ottoman Empire times. Some of the buildings they studied do not exists anymore so they researched documents and archives.”

The construction of the centre is expected to be completed in 2017.
