Meydan launches record-breaking Dubai project with world’s tallest residential building

Dubai-based developer Meydan has launched a new scheme called the Meydan One which is set to include a number of record breaking features such as the world’s tallest residential tower at 711m-high, a huge mall, the world’s largest indoor ski slope as well as a 25,000 sq metres indoor sports facility and the biggest dancing fountains in the world.

The project will also include a beach, a civic plaza capable that can hold up to  60,000 people and a 100-berth marina.

Meydan One was launched last night, Monday at the Meydan Hotel and has been approved by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Commenting on the development, Saeed Al Tayer, chairman of Meydan, said: “In a city which never stops innovating, today’s announcement is significant for the future of Dubai and the UAE.

“We have committed to developing a multi-use destination which goes beyond expectations and will cater to every kind of person living and working here, as well as those who travel from around the world to visit.

“This development is a forward-thinking, interactive enterprise geared towards the Dubai of tomorrow. The encouragement and support we have received in the past from our trusted partners will now help the Meydan One development come to life,” he added.

The total built up area of the project is 5 million square metres and will house a mall with a retractable roof that opens during the coolder months in Dubai.

Surrounding the Meydan arena are outdoor spaces that will contain football pitches, mountain biking, walking and running trials as well as a BMX park.

The record-breaking dancing fountains will be over 420m long and a 300m-long beach with a 9km-long walk.

The first phase of the project, which will be located between Meydan and Al Khail Road, is scheduled for completion before 2020 and will include the tower, the mall, the civic plaza, the dancing water fountain, a 4km canal and the marina.

The project is also set to include a 600m-long LED bridge screen and a plaza and events space with the capacity to accommodate more than 60,000 people.
