Luxury hotel operator Jumeirah has announced the appointment of Jose Silva as its new chief executive officer, Construction Week Online reported.
Silva brings more than 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry, including almost 25 years with Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts where he was regional vice president overseeing France, Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal.
He was also general manager of the acclaimed Hotel George V in Paris.
As chief executive officer of Jumeirah, Silva will be responsible for the hotel’s international expansion, continuing to elevate the brand and its growing portfolio, according to a statement.
HE Abdulla Al Habbai, chairman of Dubai Holding, said: “We are determined to continue developing Jumeirah into a globally recognised national champion; setting new industry benchmarks for world class service and quality.
“Mr Silva has had a distinguished career in hospitality with some of the world’s leading brands. I am confident his passion for designing unique guest experiences and driving innovation in the sector will build on Jumeirah’s strong growth, as we continue to enter new markets and open new hotels both at home and abroad.”
The company’s Jumeirah Beach Hotel is currently undergoing a renovation programme which will see the hotel close from May 2018 before reopening later in the year.
With work proceeding in instalments over the last two years, the final phase of the refurb will comprise 425 guest bedrooms and public spaces including sections of the beach, outdoor facilities, restaurants, dining outlets and lobby area.
Initial renovation work on the hotel was completed in 2017, covering 172 rooms and three suites, the Kids Club, beach and beachfront restaurants, with interior works scheduled to finish by October 2018.
Jumeirah Group announced last year that it will open its first hotel in Saudi Arabia with The Jabal Omar Jumeirah Makkah Hotel, designed by UK architecture giants Foster + Partners.
The five-star hotel will comprise four towers with 1,033 guest rooms and 93 villas within walking distance of the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
The project, which will be developed by Jabal Omar Development Company (JODC), is scheduled to open by early 2019.
