The new concert hall in Iceland, Harpa, designed by Henning Larsen Architects, is one of five projects that have been announced as finalists for the Mies van der Rohe Award.
Finalists include Superkilen in Copenhagen, Denmark, by BIG; City Hall in Ghent, Belgium, by Robbrecht en Daem architecten and Marie-José Van Hee architecten.
The two remaining shortlisted projects are the House for Elderly People in Alcácer do Sal, Portugal, by Aires Mateus Arquitectos, and Metropol Parasol in Seville, Spain, by J. Mayer H.
The 2013 European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award is awarded by the European Commission and the Fundació Mies van der Rohe.
In total, 335 works in 37 European countries were nominated for the award.
The overall winner of the award will be announced in May, with an award ceremony on 6th June at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion in Barcelona, Spain.
