Giant mural commemorates Oscar Niemeyer

Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer’s portrait now adorns one side of a skyscraper in Sao Paulo.

After his death in December 2012, at the age of 104, other designers decided to honour him.

Now, the architect has been immortalised in the 52 metre high mural by Brazilian street artist Eduardo Kobra, who worked with four other artists on the project.

The huge art work was completed after its designers worked for six hours each day on it.

Niemeyer – famous for his rise buildings – designed many projects across Brazil, including the masterplan for its capital city Brasilia.

He was responsible for the United Nations’ building in New York and in the last years of his life also designed an art gallery for London’s Hyde Park.
