Fritz Hansen relaunches the Series 7 chair

One of Fritz Hansen’s best selling designs, the Series 7  chair, goes ‘au naturel’ in an entirely new Series 7  collection that will be launched this month.

The collection celebrates the design’s natural beauty as the chair is brought back to its original form in a series of wooden veneer variations.

The natural material was the original material chosen by Danish architect Arne Jacobsen to furnish the Series 7 design and is an important part of Scandinavian design history.

The chairs come in a range of wood veneer variations including Maple, Ash, Beech, Cherry, Oregon Pine, Elm, Oak, Walnut and Dark Stained Oak.

It will come in nine colours inspired by the original colour palette designed by Jacobsen in 1968 including; white, light grey, dark grey, black, yellow, orange, red, petrol blue and sage green.

The Series 7 was one of the first chairs ever produced in one piece of laminated veneer by Fritz Hansen in 1955; a technique which came from the manufacturer of airplane propellers. The 56-year-old design is one of the world’s most recognised Danish designs.

The veneer and colour variations will also be introduced to other members of the Jacobsen stacking chair collection including the Ant, Grand Prix and Lily chair and Dot stool. The collection will be available from Republic of Fritz Hansen stores and authorised dealers worldwide from February 2012.
