FIFA rejects complaint over Qatar 2022 report

A complaint by the man who investigated World Cup corruption claims for FIFA, including the awarding of the 2022 tournament to Qatar, has been dismissed by football’s governing body.

US lawyer Michael Garcia’s findings were released as a 42-page summary by FIFA-appointed independent judge Hans-Joachim Eckert.

This was branded “incomplete and erroneous” by the author, prompting him to appeal against it to FIFA’s Appeal Committee.

However, in a statement, the FIFA Appeal Committee said the summary was “neither legally binding nor appealable”.

A complaint by two whistleblowers who said their confidentiality was compromised after they gave evidence to Garcia’s inquiry was also dismissed by FIFA.
