Designer Rahul Mishra has been awarded the International Woolmark Prize for India and the Middle East for 2013-14 for an MC Escher-inspired, hand-embroidered Merino wool jacket dress.
It is intended to portray “the journey of the human race and the process of metamorphosis that the earth has undergone in the last century”.
The prize, set up by the Woolmark Company, is aimed to encourage designers to highlight wool’s eco-credentials.
For the next six months, Mishra will be developing a collection in Merino wool, to be showcased during the final, which will see five finalists selected from across the globe.
“We congratulate Rahul Mishra on winning the India regional prize. With the exciting expansion of the prize in this region, which now covers the UAE, Pakistan and Lebanon, the award is becoming more
competitive and more interesting each year,” said Rob Langtry, chief marketing and strategy officer, The Woolmark Company.
