Etihad reveals luxury aircraft apartments

Etihad Airways has unveiled new luxury living space which will be made available on its A380 aircraft and will include a living room, separate double bedroom and ensuite shower room and use of a personal butler trained by the Savoy Butler Academy in London.

Branded as The Residence by Etihad and located on the upper deck of the Airbus superjumbo, the private cabins will accommodate up to two people and are described as “the world’s most luxurious living space in the air”.

The announcement is part of the newly unveiled luxury interiors on board the fleet’s A380 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

The A380 will also feature the First Apartments, which are private suites with a separate reclining lounge seat and full-length bed, as well as a chilled mini-bar, personal vanity unit and wardrobe.

The Dreamliner 787 will include the newly designed First Suite, which also has new features such as a chilled mini-bar.

Both aircraft models will also include the Business Studio and Economy Smart Seat, which will feature the latest Panasonic eX3 entertainment system with more than 750 hours of entertainment and noise cancelling headsets.

The Abu Dhabi carrier has 10 A380s aircraft on order, with the first set to go into operation on 27 December this year. The inaugural flight to London will contain 498 seats and the aircraft will be rolled out onto the New York, Melbourne and Sydney routes in due course.

Each A380 will contain two 125ft2 residences, nine First Apartments and 70 Business Studios. The Residence by Etihad living spaces will be targeted at private jet customers and will be priced from $20,000 each way between Abu Dhabi and London.

Each Etihad A380 aircraft will also feature full mobile and Wi-Fi service, while the B787 will be equipped with Wi-Fi.

The Lobby, a serviced lounge and bar area located between the First and Business cabins of the A380, will include a semi-circular leather sofa, a marquetry table and a large TV screen.

For Muslim passengers, Etihad also announced it will be installing prayer areas which can be curtained off for privacy and are equipped with a real-time electronic Qibla-finder showing the exact direction of Makkah based on the aircraft’s geographical position.

James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ president and CEO said: “We wanted to create the perfect flight… These new living spaces will raise inflight product and service standards to their highest level yet in commercial aviation and alter air travellers’ expectations of inflight comfort and luxury forever.”

The new features were the result of a collaboration between the Etihad Design Consortium (EDC) and the Promise Communispace agency.
