Engineering titan WSP finalises merger with Genivar

A merger between international engineering firm WSP Group and Canada-based Genivar has been finalised, creating a combined workforce of 14,500 in 300 global offices and a revenue of $1.7bn.

Until operational and financial integration is completed, both firms will continue to operate under their respective brands.

Commenting on the merger, Tom Bower, managing director of WSP Middle East, said: “Today is a milestone for WSP and we are very excited about the new opportunities available to our clients, our staff and to our existing and future partners.

“We greatly look forward to benefiting from Genivar’s expertise in the wide range of sectors we currently operate in within the region, which will support us in pursuing our strategic objective to grow in the Middle East.  Conversely we hope to export our own specialist expertise into new markets in Canada and elsewhere in the world as the company develops.”

WSP Group has 500 staff in Middle East offices including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Qatar and Saudi. It was the structural engineer behind London’s The Shard, now the tallest building in Europe (pictured).

Professional services firm Genivar has around 5,000 employees, with an extensive presence in Canada.
