Emirati designer opens showroom in Dubai

Emirati designer, Khalid Shafar has recently opened his new showroom space entitled ‘KASA’ as a development towards building up a reference to Emirati design.

The name of the space comes from the Italian word ‘casa,’ meaning home where Shafar is displaying his original pieces of furniture.

“I always wanted a space where I can put all my creations on display all year round, just like a home. And KASA accomplished that dream for me,” said the designer.

Located in one of the oldest areas in Dubai, Ras Al Khor, Shafar confessed his dream of one day making this area a design hub for the city like Al Quoz.

“I want to be among the first to believe in this and become a part of its establishment,” he explained.

In terms of design, Shafar said that he decided to keep the space very minimal in order to focus the attention to the objects displayed.

“I used white walls, polished concrete flooring and exposed ceilings as the main materials and interiors dominating the space,” he said.

Shafar explained that he used a special lighting system to decorate the ceilings and illuminate the pieces in the showroom.

“I used rusty metal pipes with a generous length of electrical wires and focus lights; all suspended from six different designs of opaque gypsum ceiling pieces,” he described.

The designer will be presenting his furniture once again in Design Days Dubai with Beirut-based Carwan Gallery this spring.
