Dubai launches Expo logo competition

Residents and citizens of the UAE have been invited to participate in a design contest for a new Expo 2020 Dubai logo.

Entries to the Expo 2020 Dubai Logo Design Competition can be submitted until April 30 through

The winning design, to be announced on October 20 — the start of the five-year countdown to the opening of Expo 2020 Dubai — will become the event’s official emblem, replacing the image used since the UAE won the right to host the world fair.

Organisers of the competition say it is common for major events to replace an original logo with one that “has a new look and feel and embodies the energy and enthusiasm of a nation preparing for a major global event”.

The winner will receive a cash prize plus a trip to three previous World Expo cities, a season pass for two for Expo 2020 Dubai and an invitation to the official opening ceremony.

Reem Al Hashemi, Minister of State, is board representative of the Dubai Expo 2020 Higher Committee and director-general, Bureau Dubai Expo 2020. She said: “Expo 2020 Dubai is for the people.

“With this in mind, we have a strong vision for the official logo to embody both the creativity and passion of the nation for this milestone event in our collective journey.

“Our hope is that everyone from our youngest students to our seasoned designers will be inspired, and strengthen their relationship with Expo 2020 Dubai by submitting a design that could be selected as the Expo 2020 Dubai official emblem.”

Entrants are invited to create a design that reflects the main theme of the event: Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.

All entries will be reviewed by a panel of design experts, with the Expo 2020 Dubai Higher Committee creating a short-list of finalists.
