The first edition of Downtown Design opened yesterday, welcoming industry professionals including designers, architects, developers and interior specialists at its custom- built location, The Venue, on Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard.
Exhibiting an array of brands, with a large Italian presence including the Temporary Museum of New Design from Milan, many of the exhibitors were first timers in the Middle East.
“Our selection of brands unite in terms of quality,” said fair director, Cristina Romelli Gervasoni at the Downtown Design press conference.
She commented that the aim of the fair is to help “make Dubai a global hub of design.”
Amongst the many iconic brands exhibiting at thea fair are: Vitra, Cassina, showcasing a unique Karl Lagerfeld photographic project, as well as Emco, the only brand hailing from the United States.
A travelling exhibition, Nouvelle Vague, was also present at the fair, showcasing up-and-coming talent from France as well as collaborative work by UAE-based designer, Khalid Shafar.
The show will also include a set of talks and insights from industry experts, ranging from topics such as trends in the market to the effects of technology on design.
The four- day event is open until the 1st of November.
