Dow Solar  has announced it will sponsor a solar housing design competition for students, globally.

Dow Solar develops commercial next generation solar energy technology and is a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company. The goal is to find economical, sustainable energy homes that are culturally adaptable to multiple regions.

The competition allows students to design a building that includes three connected dwellings, each using active and passive solar technologies to achieve near-zero energy solutions.

“I am excited to announce this competition in Kuwait,”  said Jamel Attal, managing director, Dow, Kuwait.

“This activity is an opportunity for students to share and display their innovative and creative ideas for the world to see. I encourage as many students as possible to take part in this global competition,” he added.

Students can participate as individuals or in a group through an online registration process and submit their projects online via

After submission, the competition will be peer-reviewed requiring each contestant to judge other submissions against predetermined criteria. All participants can comment on other projects and interact with other contestants, which Dow hopes will lead to innovative ideas and maximum involvement by participants.

The peer review judging process will also award the ‘Most Innovative Project’ and ‘Best Green Project’.

Registration began in August and will close on October 2, 2011 and is open to students from all around the world.
