Architect Hatem Hatem, industrial designer Hamza Omari, typographer Lujain Abulfaraj and interior designer Lujaine Rezk have all been selected through a panel including Tashkeel founder Lateefa bint Maktoum, Small is Beautiful co-producer Roanne Dods and Nez Gebreel, CEP of the Dubai Design and Fashion Council as well as the members of the Tashkeel team.

Taskheel annually selects designers from an open call, providing them with an opportunity create products that are sourced, designed and created within the UAE. The final products will be exhibited during Dubai Design Days next year in March 2017, available under Tashkeel’s designer label ‘Tanween’.

“The programme has expanded to four designers this year, each with distinct design backgrounds that add to the dynamic and responsive nature of programme, activating different sectors of the local manufacturing industry,” says Jill Hoyle, manager at Tashkeel. “This year will see extended outreach activities and include sessions involving the wider community and alumni of the Design Programme.”

The programme is run in collaboration with Small is Beautiful, a research programme and annual global conference that supports and inspires micro businesses. It provides designers with an opportunity for mentorship with established designers through a series of workshops.
