d3 hosts exhibition that celebrates design innovation involving Dubai citizens and residents

Dubai Design District (d3) is hosting a week-long programme that celebrates innovation, in line with the UAE Innovation Month, including activities hosted by various government entities such Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation, the Ministry of Energy and Industry and Community Development Authority.

The programme started yesterday (25 February) and continues until 1 March, and will host an exhibition entitled ‘Today, Tomorrow’ at its Design Quarter that celebrates innovation across the fields of architecture, design, fashion, and art. Each section of the exhibition will showcase products and interactive activities developed by d3’s creative community.

Various government entities will also be taking part in the programme. The Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation have launched the 100 Innovation Rooms competition, inviting citizens and residents of the UAE to submit photographs of rooms that embody the concept of innovation.

A judging panel designers and design experts will evaluate entries for innovation, integration of technology and the materials used. A photo exhibition, held at d3 during the “Today, Tomorrow” exhibition, will display the top 20 rooms from 26 February to 1 March.

From 27 to 28 February, the Ministry of Energy and Industry will host the ‘Innovation Neighbourhood’ event at the Design Quarter, featuring a display of 3D technologies, innovative arts, SME projects, innovation case studies innovation awards, workshops and keynote speakers.

The innovation-themed programming features two main themes: Build and Play.

Build exhibits the latest designs and architectural works from d3’s business partners including Finasi, FBMI, Ligne Roset and Living Divani, while Play is an activation in collaboration with MUTEK, an international organisation dedicated to the promotion of electronic music and the digital arts, that blends music and technology in live performance experiences.

There will also be an innovation station by Fun Robotics, the first specialised robotics centre in Dubai approved by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) that aims to equip youngsters with the skills to expedite their learning with a focus on STEM-related fields as a means of expressing creativity.
