The winner of this year’s Behind the Scenes award, Shyju Sukumaran from Lulie Fisher Design Studio was singled out by the judges for starting off as a CAD engineer and working his way up to lead the entire team.
Described as a ‘true silent knight’ behind the studio’s projects, the judges praised Sukumaran for keeping calm under pressure, while delivering drawing after drawing to make large detail design packages.
Upon receiving an award, Sukumaran said: “I was one of the six people who were shortlisted for this award and to be honest I never thought that I would win it. I’d like to thank Lulie for nominating me for this award.”
Lulie Fisher, design director and founder of Lulie Fisher Design Studio, worked with Sukumaran for years at Aedas Interiors after he joined Fisher’s newly established interior design company as CAD manager.
“The term CAD manager does not come close to either honouring nor encompassing the services that he actually performs for us on a daily basis and the output that he generates and allows our designers to generate. Shyju not only produces beautiful and meticulous details but manages all things IT and CAD related. Perhaps unusually for someone from this technically focused background, he also has an acute design sense and is instrumental in the final design output by way of his suggestions and guidance with the design details,” explained Fisher.
The highly commended nominee for the Behind the Scenes Award was Jeffrey Faranial from Kristina Zanic Consultants. This year’s the following professionals made the cut: Esra Lemmens from Esra Lemmens Agency; Radhika Rajagopal from Design Worldwide Partnership; Sharan Manjunath from Bluehaus Group, and Sidharth Joseph from Albal Design Studio
The award was presented by Steve Ramsden, managing director from ISG.
