Lulie Fisher Design Studio has won the Best Interior Design Concept of the Year award for its work on Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi. Fisher and her team repurposed the existing gallery spaces and sales centre into a social, cultural and educational hub for the arts.
Upon receiving the award, Fisher said: “We are absolutely delighted to win the award. It was totally unexpected as we are the new company here and to win an award is absolutely mind-blowing.”
The team envisioned the space as becoming a central hub, which will tie in the purpose of the Louvre Abu Dhabi and surrounding universities.
Fisher explained the concept: “It is quite an unusual project and we used lots of nature-inspired references. This community centre will evolve and develop with the needs of the community, ensuring a platform for inspiration, exchange, collaboration and innovation.”
The project brief set forth a huge task, and the judges felt that the scale, finishes, and colours achieve that task with a sense of joy.
The judges praised the selection of materials and the way designers brought in the external surroundings to form a part of the overall experience.
Highly commended by the judges for the “great concept that promotes children’s creative thinking” was the Olioli by Sneha Divias Atelier.
The award was presented by Kohler, CID’s Gold sponsor.
