Burj Khalifa’s tricolour tribute to Paris terrorist victims

To show solidarity with the victims of Friday’s attacks in Paris, the Burj Khalifa has been illuminated in the red, white and blue colours of France’s national flag.

Dubai’s Burj Al Arab, Capital Gate building in Abu Dhabi and Hazza Bin Zayad Stadium in Al Ain have also paid their respects by lighting up a tricolour.

The tributes follow a social media campaign calling for a show of solidarity across the UAE following the attacks on Friday which have so far claimed 132 lives.

@LloydMathias tweeted a picture of the world monuments wearing the French colours with the message: “I hope the @BurjKhalifa @BurjAlArab take the cue! Paris”.

@1DUpdatesDubai tweeted: “@Atthetop tweets “To pay respect to all those in France going through a hard time, can we light up Burj Khalifa?”

@AlphhZero appealed directly to the ruler of Dubai on social media and tweeted: “@HHShkMohd @HamdanMohammed please show your support to France and light up Burj Khalifa with the colors of the french flag. We are all one.”

@ChaiKarak tweeted: “@BurjKhalifa Most of the Global monuments has shown solidarity with France. Any plans for Burj Khalifa to do so?”

On Twitter the Burj Khalifa posted a graphic of the Eiffel Tower with the message: “To our friends in Paris, our hearts and thoughts are with you. #prayforparis. BurjKhalifa.”

The UAE president, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, has condemned the “heinous terrorist attacks” in Paris, and extended his heartfelt condolences to the French government, the people of France and the families of the victims.
