Burj Khalifa’s sky lobbies now open to the public

The sky lobbies in the Burj Khalifa are public spaces for residents and visitors that function as community centres, and have now been opened by Emaar for use.

The sky lobbies lead to different community facilities, including fitness areas to swimming pools, jacuzzis and recreational areas, and also serve as a venue for get-togethers and receptions.

“Burj Khalifa’s promise of offering residents the true experience of a ‘vertical city’ is being further strengthened with the sky lobbies,” said Ahmed Al Matrooshi, managing director, Emaar Properties.

“The sky lobbies serve as community centres located at spectacular heights for residents who can socialise or simply unwind in the comfort of the sky lobbies,” he added.

Located on levels 43, 76 and 123 of the Burj Khalifa, the sky lobbies have been designed based on Middle Eastern themes and local heritage, much like the rest of the interior design of Burj Khalifa. The motifs and design concepts used are Arabesque.

They provide views of the city and do not have window coverings; instead wooden slats create a screen that filters light and provides a sense of privacy. The design inspiration is the traditional Musharabia – a kind of window lattice.

The floors are designed in silver travertine limestone to custom-designed carpets. Arab calligraphy inspired free-flow designs can be found in the background.

Classic century lounge chairs designed by Greek designer Nichos Zographos can be found in the lobbies along with a furnished event room and fully-equipped kitchen with glass back splashes and white marble countertops, a glass top table, and leather-covered chairs by Cassina.

A specially designed corridor connects the main entrance to two spas on levels 43 and 76, featuring whimsically shaped ceiling covers, glossy mosaic tiles, and back lit glass plank flooring, that simulate the feeling of walking on water. The Amenity Spas include indoor/outdoor pools, outdoor sundecks, whirlpools, juice bars, separate exercise and massage rooms for men and women and locker rooms.

The sky lobby on level 123 includes two spacious lounges – one for the commercial suites staff and the other for residents. The lobby features marble floors, silver travertine and wenge wood walls, wood ceiling with dramatic lighting, and art pieces.
