Belhasa Projects will provide specialist flooring for the Cleveland Clinic in Sowwah Island, Abu Dhabi.

The clinic is scheduled to open in December 2012, and includes five clinic floors, three diagnostic and treatment levels and 13 floors of critical and acute inpatient units.

Belhasa Projects will provide 30,000m2 of Epoxy Terrazzo flooring, more commonly known as DTZ – an environment friendly floor that can include an inlay of sophisticated design work and is hard wearing.

“Our years of experience in providing specialist coating surfaces and flooring systems for the healthcare sector was a major factor in winning this sizable project,” said Geoff Jackson, general manager, Belhasa Projects.

“This is going to be the single largest medical facility that we have worked on till now. We opted for Epoxy Terrazzo system for the flooring as the client wants to retain a high degree of aesthetic appeal but at the same time make sure the floor is environment friendly and functional, particularly where micro organisms or bacteria are involved. It is a very hygienic system and well suited to hospitals and clinics.”

Epoxy Terrazzo provides durability and low maintenance, typically lasting the life of the building. Terrazzo flooring systems can contribute to US Green Building Council (USGBC) credits, under the LEED-NC rating system, version 2.2.

“We support the use of green construction materials. Terrazzo flooring needs little more than minor repairs and refinishing for maintenance,” added Jackson.

“It is proven to be a minimal, low-cost maintenance flooring system and the non-porous finish resists microbial growth and moisture.”

Belhasa Projects will start work on the Cleveland Clinic project in October 2011 and will complete the work by March 2012.
