UAE-based studio Architecture + Other things has been selected as the designers of the 2018 Abwab pavilions, presented as part of Dubai Design Week, and taking place at Dubai Design District.
Rather than focusing on countries as the programme has done in this past, this year’s focus will look at design from five different cities, including: Amman, Beirut, Dubai, Jeddah, and Kuwait City.
Two designers are invited from each city to collaborate and produce works related to the theme, which is yet to be announced.
Last year’s pavilion was designed by Dubai-based firm Fahed + Architects, who joined forces with waste management company Bee’ah to source recycled materials for the design, including bed springs and concrete.
The exhibition itself was curated through a peer-selection process, where one designer nominates another, evoking a sort of domino effect.
Curated by Rawan Kashkoush, Abwab is designed to promote design talent and cultural exchange between creatives from the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.
