The architecture in the narrower sense is the science and art of designing and building design and architectural interior and exterior.

The difference between architecture and engineering was often the subject of controversy. Before it was believed that the art of architecture and engineering are basically the same. In practice, there was a tendency of separating the technical and structural aspects of the building, with technical aspects being dealt by civil engineers, and aesthetic aspects undertaken by architects. Today, such a division is untenable, because as each building is unique, so much more comes to the fore the necessity of cooperation between engineers and architects due to importantance of the strength and security of the building.

On Architecture Itself

Architecture as art is a visual art that has a practical purpose – protection from the elements (rain, wind, snow, etc.), cold or heat. Building creates a volume (like a sculpture) that has the mass ratio, material properties, characteristics of surface treatment, coloring, etc. With three dimensions – width, height and depth, the architecture includes the fourth dimension – time – the movement needed to "experience" the architecture on all sides, inside and out!

When we talk about architecture, there are three aspects: stability, utility and beauty.

In each building these three aspects are vital, although their importance was different in different historical epochs. For example, in the case of modern architecture, aesthetics is seen as a mere decoration and deliberately ignored in the design, which is mostly concerned with function. But, simplicity is itself a kind of aesthetic.

More on the Three Aspects

These three factors can be seen in the hypothetical hierarchy. Buildings must first be firmly on the ground, perform a socially useful function, and finally can be designed according to aesthetic criteria. Attention to beauty is in the shadow of the basic functions of the building but the aesthetics of the functions is not possible if the building lacks structural stability.

Until a few centuries ago there wasn’t a practice that the design is the basis for the construction and engineering. Construction was a spontaneous process. Today this is no longer the case, even for the simplest building. If you are talking about the aesthetics of architecture today, it is an idea that is formalized with respect to the structural and functional principles, which leads to architectural form. Opinions about the extent to which the architect is free in his creativity are divided. Architecture needs to restore its beauty, but decorating buildings can be an expensive endevour, though some money could be made in spin palace casino.
