ArchDaily announces Building of the Year winners

A restaurant in Mexico City with a striking holey facade was among the 13 winners of the 2011 ArchDaily Building of the Year awards.

The Tori Tori restaurant by Rojkind Arquitectos and Esrawe Studio utilises a handcrafted facade composed of two layers of self-supporting steel plates.

The winner of the office category was The Crystal in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, an asymmetrical complex inspired by natural forms.

Bilbao Arena in Spain by ACXT was the winner of the Sports category, which sits atop land formerly occupied by ancient iron mines and features a distinctive green facade.

Other winners included Milstein Hall at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York; Moses Bridge, Halsteren, The Netherlands; Museum of Ocean and Surf, Biarritz, France, and an apartment building in Luxembourg City.

No buildings from the Middle East received accolades from ArchDaily, a popular website for architecture news.
