The Association of Professional Interior Designers (APID) has announced the names of UAE-based design professionals as ambassadors for the 13th installment of the Biannual International Federation of Interior Designers (IFI) Congress, which will be hosted in Dubai in 2019.

The upcoming event will be hosted by APID, who won the bid at the last edition of the Congress held in 2017 in Nigeria, scoring 17 out of 18 votes.

The ambassadors for upcoming IFI Congress have been selected based on their level of active participation within the field of design in the UAE, as well as based on the extent to which they have “helped  the region meet its design goals”, and their support for APID (a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the development of the architecture and design community based in MENA  since 2005).

Here is the full list of names: Esra Lemmens, Laura Bielecki, Omaima Ibrahim Mohammed Alrebati, Alison Grace-Gahan, Jane Muff, Faisal Ali Raisi, Ayida al Riami, Maja Kozel,  Indu Varanasi, Pallavi Dean, Dr. Gamal el Samanoudy, Carlos Montana, Dr. Nagla Mahmoud, Kristin Lee, Juan Roldan, Annamaria Lambri, Roman Lafner and Samiha Al Hashimi.

The list of names include professionals who promote and endorse design in the region, business executives and owners, practicing interior designers, as well as professors and academics.

APID has recently organised a visit for the delegates of the IFI to plan the forthcoming event, the first out of a series of meetings that will be held to discuss plans for the Congress. The agenda allowed delegates to get a sense of how the architecture and design community of UAE operates, with various ambassadors representing different areas of the industry.

The theme for the 13th edition of the event has not yet been revealed, however there have been talks about  how interior design and architecture is shaping and enhancing economies of well-known cities, with other themes centering on smart cities.

The end goal, according to the organisations, is to improve societal experience using advanced design methods that implement an attitude of sustainability and establish better guidelines in terms of designing experience-oriented spaces. It also aims to improve the education system for aspiring designers.

Founded in 1963, the IFI  is the regulating body for expert architects and spatial designers globally, and is an international platform that overlooks the exchange of information, as well as advancement through research and education in the field of architecture and interior design.
