Steve Kelshaw, managing director, DSA Architects International, speaks to Middle East Architect about the year ahead.
Based in Dubai, the firm’s recent projects include the One & Only hotel on the Palm Jumeirah and Al Fattan House in Dubai Marina (pictured).
Q: How was 2011 for DSA?
A: 2011 was one of continued consolidation for us. We focused hard on delivery for our existing clients in order to retain and achieve repetitive business which we did successfully. Coupled with that we were appointed for new work in emerging markets in China, India, Qatar, Azerbaijan which bolstered our workload in order to achieve our turnover for the year. It was certainly a challenging year, but one where we are proud of our achievements.
Q: What are your hopes for 2012?
A: We start the year with optimism, our order book is healthy and we remain committed to the region. As an international practice with world-wide signature projects, our strategy is to be positive and determined to win our bids with continued quality and dedication.
Q: What are the key projects that you are working on?
A: We are currently handling different projects around the region including Bahrain, Jordan, Syria, China and Vietnam. Projects include the Hilton Dead Sea Resort & Spa in Jordan. Adjacent to the Hilton is the Samarah Rift Townhouses and Retail Mall. In Syria, we are designing a commercial tower within the Eighth Gate Development.
We are also engaged in several master planning projects including the Lebanon Waterfront City in Beirut and Bilaj Al Jazayer in Bahrain.
