Get to know those behind the second round of the designMENA Quiz Night.
With the second round of designMENA Quiz Night just around the corner, to be held on 25 April at ON42 at Media One Hotel in Dubai’s Media City, interior designers and architects are gearing up for a night of trivia.
Industry professionals are invited to join the teams from designMENA, Commercial Interior Design and Middle East Architect and compete to wrest the title of ‘UAE’s Smartest Creatives’ from reigning champions LXA (aka the ‘Artistic Monkeys’).
For those who were not at last year’s quiz, it was presented by Dubai 92 Radio presenter Catboy (Simon Smedley) alongside his partner Lorra and featured seven trivia rounds, some focused on design and architecture, and others on general knowledge topics including music and movies.
Competitors also faced a creative round at the end of the night in which they were tasked with creating a piece of designer furniture using a single block of Plasticine. The winner was Draw Link Group for its ‘living room’ concept that was commended for its intricate detailing.
The participating design and architecture companies included Godwin Austen Johnson, Perkins+Will, Wilson Associates, Woods Bagot, LXA, Pallavi Dean Interiors, Bishop Design, Kristina Zanic, Aurecon, Brand Creative, 4 Space Design, Esra Lemmens Agency and Cracknell.
While this year we look forward to seeing the same companies, requests from new participants have been rolling in, ensuring the night will continue to serve as a great networking opportunity.
Although the following pages will introduce the night’s sponsors, which include OFIS, Herman Miller, Cosentino, Kohler and USM, there are still a limited number of sponsorship opportunities left.

Why is Cosentino sponsoring the designMENA Quiz Night?
The format of the designMENA Quiz Night is a break away from the usual awards and industry networking events, which tend to be quite formal. This event promises to be an informative yet fun night out for the industry with a lot of opportunities to network.
We are sponsoring the creative round this year. It gives architects and designers the opportunity to engage with our products as they respond to the challenge of the round.
At Cosentino, we don’t believe in hard sell. We are about ideas and design inspiration. And by partnering, we feel we are building a meaningful relationship with the design industry. It is an opportunity to foster experiential learning and creativity.
What do you think people will gain from attending the event?
I think people will enjoy the adrenaline rush of the competition, networking with industry peers, building relationships with suppliers and industry partners, and, most of all, a light-hearted evening to remember.
What are you personally looking forward to?
I think it’ll be great to watch the architecture and design industry in action in a friendly match.
Christele Brakat, Key Account Manager, Middle East

At Kohler, we’re all about innovation. We recently launched our collection of faucets including the Avid, Composed, Beitou and Loure collections, which were inspired by high-end fashion. Both the Avid and Composed collections won Red Dot Design Awards. We’ve also been focusing on sustainability and connectivity – this year, we launched our 3L Flush Toilet in the Middle East and the Kohler Konnect System in Shanghai.
Kohler has design studios across the USA, UK, France, India and China. These design studies give Kohler fluency in local culture, as well as the ability to understand the relevance of local products to people globally.
Why did Kohler choose to sign on as sponsor?
The designMENA Quiz Night is vital for Kohler as an opportunity to increase the company’s brand awareness among interior designers in the region.
Design runs in Kohler’s DNA, and we cherish our relationship with designers all around the world.
Why should people attend the designMENA Quiz night?
It doubles as a networking event and a fun night.
