The hospitality segment is witnessing massive developments across all major markets in the GCC. According to industry research, the GCC hotel industry is estimated to register growth of 11% per annum to reach revenues worth US$ 22 billion in 2012 and US$ 27 billion in 2015.

Furthermore, the hotel sector in the Middle East will see US$6 billion worth of projects reaching completion by 2013. Recent developments in this sector include Doha confirming its requirement for an additional 80,000 hotel rooms to cater to the 1.4 million visitors expected to watch the four-week World Cup in 2022.

As such, an estimated 800 towers (of more than 20 storeys) of residential apartments, commercial premises, hotel accommodation and mixed-use structures are planned for completion in Doha over the next 10 years to provide the necessary high-density accommodation and commercial real estate, principally in the West Bay area.

In the UAE, Sharjah is planning to build two green hotels and eco-tourist destinations in a move to increase the amount of visitors to the emirate to 3.5 million by 2012. Abu Dhabi, UAE’s capital, is expected to report the largest increase in the supply of new hotel rooms, if each of its 13,405 additional rooms in its total active pipeline remains open.

Other markets to expect significant increases in existing stock of hotel rooms include: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (4,831 rooms in its total active pipeline); Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (3,033 rooms); Muscat, Oman (1,931 rooms); and Dubai, UAE (28,474 rooms).

More than 450 exhibitors and brands will target this expanding hospitality sector at The Hotel Show, with more than 45 countries, 13 international pavilions and over 420 suppliers and consultants participating.

Running from May 15-17, 2012, at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the show celebrates its 13th edition this year.

According to the February 2012 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report, more than 498 hotels, totaling 134,893 hotel rooms are forecast for completion in the Middle East by the year end, is a clear indication of the market potential in the region.

Now a well-established platform for all sectors of the hospitality industry to showcase and source products and services, the show is expected to welcome more than 15,000 industry professionals from more than 93 countries to Dubai for the three-day event.

“The Hotel Show is now internationally recognised as one of the key supply and sourcing platforms for the region’s hospitality industry. This is a position that we continue to expand on through the showcasing of the broadest range of products, services and technologies for the hospitality sector,” said Frederique Maurell, event director, The Hotel Show.

“A significant percentage of the visitors at tradeshow are decision makers, so the diversity, range and competitiveness of exhibitors are critical for the success of the event. We are looking forward to a record year.”

From interior design to furnishings, exhibitors at this year’s show include suppliers and manufacturers, including; Pedro Y Lopez, King Koil, Al Aqili, Catalano, Andreu World, Samsung, ABB Industries, B5 Living, VTech Hospitality Division, Hypnos and Applico Design.

This year’s event will additionally see the inaugural Middle East Hotel Awards which reward design, product and service excellence in the regional hospitality industry. More than 59 submissions have already been received for eight award categories.

The Middle East Spa Awards returns for the third time, with a record number of 77 entries. The Student Design Awards, sponsored by Woods Bagot, focuses on The Hotel Design of the Future, with the winning student earning an internship with the international architectural and design practice.

In collaboration with The Office Exhibition 2012, the Hotel Show gives exhibitors a chance to showcase their most innovative products through The Middle East Office & Hospitality Product Design Awards, organised by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).
