Bathroom suppliers you should know

The residential sector continues to remain top in the interior spend in the GCC followed by the commercial sector while the hotel sector is the one to watch out for as the major growth sector in 2016, shows the latest report by Index International Design Exhibition and Ventures ME.

According to the report, Saudi Arabia is the biggest interior contracting and fit-outs sector, including kitchen and bathroom fittings, followed by UAE and Qatar while Kuwait is slowly emerging as a growth market in terms of likely project completions this year.

“Oman and Bahrain have shown a decrease in interiors and fit-out spend, and project completions due to stringent budget cuts by their governments,” says the report.

The Building Services Research and Information (BSRIA) report on the global bathroom market shows that 24m baths were sold in 2014 and the market is predicted to grow at an annual rate of just below 5% until 2019. The report goes on to say that the Europe, Middle East and Africa market accounts for over 62% of the world baths market, followed by Asia-Pacific and the Americas. In the shower trays, segment sales to EMEA accounted for around half of all commercialised units. The ranking changes in the taps and mixers segment, where Asia-Pacific is the largest market, accounting for 43%. This is followed by EMEA at 34%, and the Americas at 23%.

As sustainability has become a major issue, the fit-out and interior industry in the region has experienced increased pressure to implement environmentally-responsible practices.

“As interior designers we are always looking for ways to reduce the impact of our designs on the environment,” explains Rania Mahmoud Hamed, principal at Dubai-based VSHD Design studio. “This is done through re-using, refinishing, or reconfiguring existing materials in our renovation projects. Also considering passive design strategies such as daylight, natural ventilation and solar energy.”

When it comes to bathroom design trends, designers are now placing a premium on features and products that promote energy efficiency and lower water consumption. Hamed adds that smart features are constantly being incorporated into the modern bathroom.

With this in mind, Commercial Interior Design speaks to bathroom suppliers you should know about their recent projects and water efficient products that embrace sustainability.

Kaldewei

Tell us about your company

Kaldewei, a family-run company for four generations, was founded in Ahlen, Germany by Franz Kaldewei in October 1918.

It has developed into one of the leading manufacturers of high-end bathroom solutions shaped from a special enamel, which is produced to a proprietary formula in its own melting furnaces. The material, Kaldewei steel enamel, is much harder than acrylic. Burning and smoldering objects such as cigarettes or candles do not leave marks on the surface.

The company is currently present in more than 80 countries and all products are manufactured exclusively in Germany. Constant expansion of the company’s market position in international competition is an integral part of Kaldewei’s strategic alignment, whereby optimum product solutions, corporate responsibility, and competence form the basis of trust that clients worldwide place in the premium manufacturer.

What are your latest products?

A very special highlight is our new segment washbasins made of Kaldewei steel enamel. Our new washbasins are highly scratch, abrasion and impact resistant. Unlike ceramics and mineral composites, steel enamel is uniquely robust and withstands significant mechanical stress without breaks or cracks. This quality promise for washbasins and all other products made of superior steel enamel is underlined by Kaldewei with a 30-year guarantee.

What projects have Kaldewei been part of?

For many years, Kaldewei has been demonstrating its expertise as an international partner for project business with high-end bathroom solutions. In Dubai, Kaldewei steel enamel has been used in successful properties such as the Grand Hyatt Dubai and The Address Sky View, which is equipped with more than 1,200 Kaldewei bathtubs. The stylish Peninsula Shanghai Hotel and the Marina Bay Sands luxury hotel in Singapore as well as the Waldorf Astoria Berlin – to name just a few– equally rely on the bathroom manufacturer’s superb quality.

What trends do you see in bathroom design?

The hotel bathroom today is much more than a functional room. The hotel bathroom is increasingly becoming an integral part of the space in which we live and an individual room of wellness and style.

Design and generous sizes play an ever greater role in bathroom architecture. When planning the new hotel bathroom, everything needs to blend seamlessly. Kaldewei products made of steel enamel are optimally matched for a stylish oasis of wellbeing, with enamelled shower surface, bathtub and washbasin in a harmonious design and quality.

The floor-level shower has become a megatrend thanks to its exclusive design language, advancing to feature as a standard in modern bathrooms. With generous space to move around and barrier-free access, it promises a special shower experience.

Quality also plays a major role in the hotel bathroom. Shower surfaces and baths are sensitive areas, and therefore, must be particularly hygienic and easy to clean. What is needed is a bathroom solution that guarantees uncompromising quality, durability and secure installation.

The distinct surface of Kaldewei products equally appeals to its special hygiene properties. Not even the microscopically tiniest scratches appear on the hard, pore-free surface of Kaldewei enamel, preventing the build-up of lime scale and dirt particles. Cleaning is quick and easy requiring all but a soft, damp cloth.
