The Burj Khalifa Rubino Penthouse: Testing the sky’s limits

Camouflage marble, hidden doors and stitched leather walls. Go behind Etereo's design of Dubai's high-rise living

On the 103rd floor of Dubai’s Burj Khalifa is the Rubino Penthouse. This 4,494 sqft apartment is a living, breathing masterpiece, offering a glimpse into the future of high-end interiors. The design was completed by Etereo Design Studio, who’s motto stands proud at “Architecture, design and emotion”. This recent project provides a blueprint for how to combine innovation, craftsmanship and luxury at the highest levels. Let’s explore the design choices that define this extraordinary space.

Materials that define elegance

The Burj Khalifa Rubino Penthouse is an exquisite tapestry woven from fine materials, with every surface and texture contributing to the overall narrative. Entering the property, you are greeted by the tactile sophistication of Tapetex wallpaper, which sets the tone for the grandeur that follows. This is more than just wall covering, it’s a material that enhances the sensory experience of the space, invoking a sense of warmth against the cold architectural beams that run through each apartment.

The grand entrance: A prelude to opulence

The entrance of the penthouse serves as the perfect introduction to the visual symphony that awaits inside. The full-height camouflage marble used for the flooring and surrounding walls creates a breath-taking first impression, bringing a sense of continuity between the interior and the stunning Dubai skyline outside. Hidden pivot doors clad in marble lead to private spaces, preserving the intimate nature of this residence while contributing to the overwhelming sense of grandeur that pervades the penthouse. These elements create a seamless transition from the entryway into the expansive living spaces.

Living in refinement

At the heart of the Burj Khalifa Rubino Penthouse is the spacious living area, an organic fusion of sophisticated concealment and refined elegance. Structural columns are concealed behind striking reddish-orange leather cladding by Pavoni, which anchors the space while adding an unexpected burst of colour. The circular living area is nestled on dark Cadorin parquet flooring, offering an inviting space for relaxation.

To the left, a circular dining area features a marble-topped table illuminated by mesmerising glass chandeliers, while to the right, a curated lounge area is anchored by Giorgetti’s Flamingo table and a white grand piano. Each of these design elements speaks to the exclusivity of this penthouse, where the living experience is as much about visual harmony as it is about sensory involvement.

A bar to remember: Functional and beautiful

One of the standout features of this penthouse is the custom free-standing bar counter. Crafted from a blend of bronze metal and a Calacatta violet marble top, the bar creates a focal point for the living space. The back wall of the bar extends seamlessly into the larger marble-clad wall, a clean yet dramatic design that reveals a temperature-controlled wine cellar hidden behind glass doors. The integration of form and function here exemplifies the sophistication that the Burj Khalifa Rubino Penthouse strives for and undoubtedly succeeds at.

Hidden storage, open views

In a space this large, storage is often an afterthought, but here it is cleverly integrated into the design. Curved sliding doors clad in Tapetex wallpaper open to reveal hidden storage spaces, blending seamlessly into the aesthetic flow of the penthouse. The brilliance of this design lies not only in its beauty but in the effortless integration of functionality. Meanwhile, panoramic views of the Dubai skyline take centre stage, framed by expansive windows that can be covered with motorised curtains at the touch of a button.

Technology and harmony

The TV room offers a masterclass in the integration of technology and design. A sleek TV is mounted against a stitched leather wall, while large windows offer uninterrupted views of the city below. The sophisticated use of technology is discreet, enhancing the immersive experience of the space without distracting from the overall aesthetic. It is a perfect example of how technology can complement rather than overpower design.

Culinary artistry in the kitchen

The kitchen in the Burj Khalifa Rubino Penthouse is a true culinary masterpiece. Black marble lines the countertops, backsplash and cabinetry, evoking a sense of refined elegance. The use of De Castelli’s blue-green and bronze metal-clad pocket doors reveals hidden elements, offering a subtle surprise and blending form with function in an understated manner. For those looking to create seamless transitions between functional spaces and aesthetic beauty, this kitchen is an ideal example.

Master bedroom and sanctuary

Luxury takes on a new definition in the master bedroom and bathroom. The curved dressing table crafted from grey oak wood provides a perfect contrast to the travertine greige marble that envelopes the master bathroom. Forest brown marble features further elevate the design, while the walk-in closet, with its dark Cadorin parquet flooring, exudes sophistication and warmth. Tapetex wallpaper envelops the space, adding depth and texture. Together, these elements create a serene retreat that emphasises tranquillity without compromising on luxury.

Bedroom sanctuaries with personalisation

Each bedroom within the Burj Khalifa Rubino Penthouse is a sanctuary, offering an intimate and unique atmosphere through the use of leather-backed walls with varying themes. This thoughtful personalisation ensures that each room offers a tailored experience of relaxation and luxury, allowing the design to speak to the individual tastes and needs of its inhabitants.

Testing the sky’s limits

The Burj Khalifa Rubino Penthouse is harmoniously designed to create an immersive living experience, with a seamless integration of functionality, technology and comfort. With each thoughtful detail, from the hidden storage solutions to the panoramic views, this penthouse redefines what it means to live in one of the most sought-after locations in the world.
